A restored c. 1874 Victorian, The Gables is a warm, inviting home with 3 guest bedrooms. They each have comfortable beds, private baths and are furnished with antiques and hand-made quilts. You start the day with a delicious, full breakfast, carefully prepared and artfully presented. The guest parlours, one with a fireplace, are wonderful places to relax, relive the days events or read a good book. Nestled at the north end of Watkins Glen with its gorge and Race Track, and amid wineries, The Gables is a perfect home base from which to explore the Finger Lakes Region. Your hosts are Linda & John Smyder. We have a dog named "Maggie" and she is not allowed in guest rooms.

Our Bed and Breakfast is a "Private Home Bed and Breakfast" that is of the Victorian architectural style. Our home was restored/remodeled in 1987 and we opened for business in 1999. You can park you car off the main street during your stay with us.

So, if you are looking for good conversation, personal attention, information about the Finger Lakes Region, a peaceful getaway, economical rates, excellent food, easy access to nature, a Honeymoon spot, or just a place with antiques and a comfortable decor then The Gables is the place for you.

Our Location

We are located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, in the village of Watkins Glen. We are approximately 81 miles from Rochester, NY, 88 miles from Syracuse, NY, and 243 miles from New York City.

Directions:
From Interstate 90 (New York Thruway) exit 42 (State Route 14) continue south to Watkins Glen. Turn left onto 4th. St.(414N). Go 3 blocks and The Gables is on your left at the corner of 4t. and Perry Sts. (Approximately 37 miles from Thruway exit 42.)

From Interstate 90 (New York Thruway) exit 41 (State Route 414 South) SR-414 turns into 4th. Street upon entering Watkins Glen. The Gables is on your right shortly after going over the bridge over the canal at the corner of 4t. and Perry Sts. (Approximately 45 miles from Thruway exit 41.)

From State Route (SR) 17 to Exit 52N. SR-14 North (SR-14 joins SR-414N in Watkins Glen). Turn right on to 4th. St. (414N). Go 3 blocks and The Gables is on the left at the corner of 4th. and Perry Sts. (Approximately 23 miles from Exit 52N.)

From State Route (SR) 17 exit in Corning at SR-414N. SR-414 merges into SR14/414 at the bottom of the hill in Watkins Glen. Turn right onto 4th. St. (414N). Go 3 blocks and The Gables is on the left at the corner of 4th. and Perry Sts. (Approximately 21 miles from Corning.)

One queen sized bed

The wrought iron bed has a cozy quilt that will keep you nice and warm if you join us during the off season. Furnishings include window air conditioner, ceiling fan, chest of drawers, framed prints, mirror, alarm clock, robes, and night stand. (Private bath on hall.)

The Rose Room:

Maximum number of guests allowed is 4
One queen sized bed
One day bed with trundle bed
Rate of $95
The rate for each additional person over double occupancy is $15

This is a great room for a family. The queen sized bed has a cozy quilt that will keep you nice and warm on those chilly nights. The antique day bed is appointed with comfortable pillows that make it a great place to lounge away reading a good book. Furnishings include window air conditioner, ceiling fan, chest of drawers, framed prints, mirror, alarm clock, robes, and night stands. (Private bath in room.)

Policies

Cancellation: With two weeks notice a full refund will be made. Accepted Payment Methods: Cash, Mastercard, VISA, Personal checks, Travelers checks. Payment of one night's stay is required to secure a reservation. There is a two night minimum stay required on major race weekends and holidays. Check In time is 4:00 - 6:00pm and Check Out time is 11:00am Smoking is not allowed. Guest pets are not allowed. Accommodations are suitable for children under parents supervision.
